Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services (NYSE:SAY), a global IT consulting and services provider offering a range of expertise aimed at helping customers reengineer and reinvent their businesses to compete successfully in an ever-changing marketplace, has decided to ramp up its base in Bhuvaneshwar and plans to set up a new IT Block in Satyam's Development Center in the city.

The company already has a 60,000 sq ft facility in the city and the new block would add another 35,000 sq ft to the existing Center that began operations in 1999.

This sprawling campus is a dedicated development center for Satyam's global customers and has around 200 professionals
currently. The company plans to increase its headcount by another 250 soon.

The decision to expand base in Bhuvaneshwar is part of Satyam's overall expansion plan to geographically broadbase its operations in India. The availability of a large manpower pool, good infrastructure facilities and the progressive government policies in Orissa are some of the key factors for the expansion.

Speaking on the occasion, B. Ramalinga Raju, chairman of Satyam
Computers said, "Easy availability of talent and other resources and the encouragement we have received from the government has prompted us to expand further. This expansion is in line with our overall plans of consolidating our operations in the eastern region."

Naveen Patnaik chief minister of Orissa said, "The IT industry and software exports have been growing tremendously over the years earning valuable foreign exchange. There still exists huge opportunity with the industry expected to grow ten-fold over the next few years, for which the country needs to gear up in terms of manpower to meet this opportunity, the government of Orissa is ready to provide all support and encourage IT initiatives to play its part." He added "Satyam has been one of the first companies to set up operations in our State and I am happy that Satyam is expanding its presence in our state, which is in the right direction".

The ISO 9001:2000 and BS7799 certified development centre is well equipped with the physical and networking infrastructure to support the operations. The new facility will provide world-class working environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure including computer and networking facilities and facilitate direct client interaction through excellent voice and video infrastructure and provide round the clock customer support.

The centre also has over 3.5 acres of green belt and uses water conservation methods within its premises.
