Fox Star Studio, which had earlier distributed Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire in India, has signed a deal with Bollywood director Karan Johar's company Dharma Productions and actor Shah Rukh's company Red Chillies for the global, multi-lingual release of My Name Is Khan. The company will distribute the film both in India and worldwide.

Talking at a press conference, Shah Rukh Khan said hopefully the deal would help take Indian cinema to the international level. The deal is reported to be worth Rs80-90 crore.

According to Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, his company would possess all the rights to the film. While Fox Searchlight Pictures will distribute the film in America, Twentieth Century Fox International will work in regions outside India and the US.

"I don't want to let anyone down. With all humility I would like to say that in the 20 years of my career and 15 years of Karan's, we have hit upon a kind of cinema that's brave and the kind of pop cinema that India stands for today. Internationally, we need to work on the kind of cinema that would respect the tastes of the western audience also," Khan said.

Khan plays the role of an autistic person in the film.

According to Sanford Pantich, president, international productions, the film was chosen as it was specially unique.
