Shasun Chemicals signs LoI with to acquire plants, processes, patents of French firm

Chennai: The city-based Shasun Chemicals and Drugs Limited has declared a net profit of Rs9.62 crore on a turnover of Rs153.42 crore for the half year ended 30th September 2004. For the corresponding period of the last fiscal the profit and the turnover figures were Rs8.03 crore and Rs129.09 crore respectively.

During the period under review the company''s exports were Rs107 crore as against Rs81 crore earned in the previous year contributed to the bottomline. While depreciation and staff costs rose by Rs1.24 crore and Rs1.81 crore respectively, the company''s interest out go came down by Rs1.72 crore to Rs1.37 crore.

For the quarter ended 30th September 2004 Shasun has registered a total revenue of Rs85.13 crore and an after tax profit of Rs5.70 crore. While the turnover increased by 22 per cent the after tax profit increased by 16 per cent as compared to the figures of previous years'' corresponding period.

During the quarter the Shasun obtained the BVQI-certified OHSAS 18001:1999 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) status for its Cuddalore unit.

During the quarter under review, the company has also filed three drug master files (DMF) with the United States Food and Drugs Administration (USFDA) for Gabapentene, Sulphazine and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose phthalate (HPMCP).
