Skoda puts the first 6-cylinder turbo-diesel on Indian roads

Mumbai: Premium automobile manufacturer, ŠkodaAuto India a. s. Czech Republic a fully owned subsidiary of ŠkodaAuto as., (Volkswagen Group), has launched ŠkodaSuperb turbo diesel, a front wheel-driven luxury car. It is priced at Rs2,180,861 (ex showroom Mumbai). ŠkodaSuperb is the flagship model of the ŠkodaAuto brand.

"The Superb has excellent build quality second to none that has been proven through winning the awards such as the 2005 Overdrive "Car of the Year", CNBC TV18 "Viewer's Choice" and "Design of the Year awards.", said Imran Hassen, managing director, ŠkodaAuto India announcing the launch of the vehicle

"With crude oil prices skyrocketing, people are beginning to try out diesels and realising how much power it can offer. We have observed that the diesel car market is growing sharply in India in recent years. Turbo Diesel Superb is the best expression yet of Škoda's technological capabilities, and dedication to rebuilding the brand to its earlier excellence with the original Superb name, which dates back to the 1930s."

In India ŠkodaSuperb already available with 2.8-litre, V6 petrol engine offering 190 bhp. The new vehicle is a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine on the same B5 platform. It will be available in four colors, sahara beige, black magic, candy white and diamond silver.

The 4,803mm-long Superb is structured around a wide wheelbase of 2,803mm. The body is built safe and weighs a solid 1,604-1706 Kg. The cars contours hint at Volkswagen's design influence. It is a that drives smoothly and is equipped to handle the road extremely well. Power to the front wheels is routed through a five-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic.

Hassen disclosed that the ongoing expansion of production capacity at the Aurangabad plant is to "facilitate the company's plans to introduce new products and technologies in the Indian market till the end of 2006 and further."

"This expansion will also help our plans to export products in the South Asian region," he added.
