Sony launches convertible laptop range Vaio Flip

It is the day of the tablets now, as handheld devices slowly edge out computers from the market. However, PC makers have not run out of ideas yet. After Dell and HP, Sony has now decided to focus its energies on convertible laptops and has brought its new Vaio Flip laptop range to the Indian market.

Sonly launches convertible laptop range Vaio FlipSony Vaio Flip 13N, priced Rs99,990, is a new hybrid laptop-cum-tablet and as with other hybrid laptops, the key feature of the Vaio Flip 13N is its hinge mechanism.

The device's lid cover is split into two parts with the top section functioning as the display, while the bottom half is connected to the keyboard.

The switch from the laptop mode to the tablet mode happens with only a slight push of the top half to release the display panel.

According to Sony, the hinge mechanism is very reliable and can easily take in its stride a million swivels. People who claim to have tested the mechanism say they found it smooth and easy to operate.

The lid cover of the 13-inch model is made from brushed aluminium while the bottom part is made from matte plastic.

The Vaio Flip 13N is the best in its class for portability and despite its 13-inch screen, it weighs just 1.3kg. It feels quite light in the hand, especially compared to the likes of Dell XPS 12. 

The device is a good choice for people want to buy a convertible laptop, that is also light.

The keyboard is backlit and has an elegant feel when it comes to typing; the trackpad is sufficiently large and the keys are easy to stroke.

With the launch of the laptop cum tablet, Sony has  entered the multi-capability device market, where it will take on companies like Intel who announced a few laptops cum tablet devices in the past year.

The new Vaio Flip F13N/F14N/F15N will go on sale starting 29 January, across select company outlets and major electronic stores across India.

The device is powered by 4th Generation Intel Core i5 & i7 processors, while the VAIO Flip F15N is also powered by NVIDIA auto switchable graphics.

The battery of the Flip F13N lasts up to 7.5 hours, while batteries in F14N and F15N batteries last for 6 hours and 5 hours respectively.

The device comes with a dedicated USB port inside charging adaptor for quick smart phone charging, providing instant charging without blocking USB ports on laptop. Vaio's sleep and charge technology, allows charging of phones even when the system is shutdown.
