SSL International increase its India sourcing basket

Chennai: The UK-based SSL International has decided to increase its sourcing from India and will replicate its successful sourcing model for the Dr Scholl''s foot care product range.

SSL International already caters to the global condoms market by sourcing them from TTK LIG in India.This model will now be extended to the Dr Scholl foot care product range being made in India by SSl-TTK.

The Rs90-crore turnover SSL TTK, a 51:49 joint venture between SSL International and TTK Group, commissioned its new Rs25-crore facility near Chennai recently. According to T T Jagannthan, chairman, TTK group, the new facility will produce 40 per cent of the global requirement of Dr Scholl''s products. The product range includes treatment for common foot conditions such as corns and calluses, a range of insoles and other foot comfort products, foot files and accessories and specialist skincare creams.

"The new facility would produce 30 million units per annum. Based on the demand -global and local- the capacity would be increased," says Garry Watts, CEO, SSL International,

The current domestic turnover of the company is around Rs3.5 crore. The company has also licensed footwear major Bata India to manufacture and market the Dr Scholl range of footwear.

Apart from the new plant, Gerald Corbett, chairman, SSL International inaugurated a research and development facility located in Ticel Bio Park, Chennai. This facility will research on condoms and the foot care products.
