Sterlite Technologies to supply power transmission conductors to Ethiopia

Sterlite Technologies Ltd will supply AAAC power transmission conductors to the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo). The estimated contract value of the Ethiopian order is approximately Rs69.5 crore ($17.5 million) with deliveries commencing April 2008 through September 2008.

As part of Ethiopia's power sector accelerated electrification programme (AEP) project under World Bank funding, Sterlite is the sole manufacturer to supply over 17,000km of AAAC conductors that will be installed along a 4,000km route length in Ethiopia.

Sterlite has a fortified its market share to about 14 per cent in Africa and the Middle East. Its power transmission conductor are sold in 32 countries across the region to utilities and infrastructure companies such as SONELGAZ in Algeria, KPLC in  Kenya, PHCN in Nigeria, ESKOM in South Africa and FEWA in the UAE.

Sterlite's exports for its power conductors accounted for about 35 per of its total revenues in the nine months between April-December FY 2007-08. The company currently meets about 27 per cent of India's total demand for power transmission and distribution conductors.

Sterlite says it is a significant contributor to the global power sector through indigenous manufacture of a complete range of power transmission conductors at extra high voltages (400kV - 800kV), high voltages (66kV - 220kV) and power distribution conductors (11kV- 33kV).

With a cumulative manufacturing capacity of 115,000 MT, Sterlite is the largest manufacturer in India and amongst the top 5 global manufacturers of power conductors.
