Suzuki chief meets Modi, proposes skill centre in Gujarat

Maruti Suzuki India will set up a skill development centre in Gujarat, where it is setting up a Rs4,000 crore plant in Mehsana.

Maruti Suzuke chairman R C Bhargava said this after he along with Osamu Suzuki, chairman of the company's Japanese parent Suzuki Motor Corp, met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today.

Suzuki, who is in India to attend MUL's annual general meeting, along with Maruti Suzuki chairman R C Bhargava and managing director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi, called on Modi at his residence today.

"I came to thank Mr Modi because he visited me in Japan and I came to attend AGM of Maruti," Suzuki said after the meeting.

MUL chairman Bhargava said Suzuki informed Modi about MSI's plans to set up a skill development centre in Gujarat. The plan is to initially train 500 people in Japan, to get tem accustomed to Japanese work culture.

"Suzuki has mentioned about making a scheme by which up to 500 technicians, supervisors can be trained before we start production here," Bhargava said.
