Mumbai: Sybase (http://ap.sybase.com) has introduced PowerBuilder Web Framework Services, aimed at offering professional services consultants a rich set of foundations for extending existing PowerBuilder applications to the web.

PowerBuilder customers who need to web-enable their existing PowerBuilder applications will benefit from this framework through Sybase Professional Services offerings. This framework is built on a J2EE 1.3-certified application server.

The PowerBuilder Web Framework will allow PowerBuilder customers to leverage on existing investments such as development skills sets and developed Powerbuilder/COM/C/C++ components and at the same time support J2EE component requirement.

The benefits of the PowerBuilder Web Framework for customers are the ability to quick-start a web application and reuse existing PowerBuilder codes. Existing PowerBuilder staff can be productive in web development without major retraining and the gradual migration of existing architecture to the latest Internet technology by utilising an application server.

In order to help customers enjoy the benefits of PowerBuilder Web Framework services in the shortest possible time frame, Sybase consultants are available onsite to transfer knowledge and customise reference implementation.

PowerBuilder Web Framework is targeted at enterprise customers who have already invested in PowerBuilder and at the same time would like to build a new web application and extend their PowerBuilder applications to the web.

“The framework for PowerBuilder provides a host of new features that continue to allow developers to build powerful applications easily and rapidly. It should benefit the Indian developer community and boost their productivity and make web-centric software projects easier to manage,“ says Sybase director (South Asia) Govind Nangrani.

Features of the PowerBuilder Web Framework include security authentication and authorisation, J2EE security standard conformity, simplified GUI design, custom-made 'Action Servlet,' configuration-based HTMLDW, high-performance datawindow memory caching technology, PowerBuilder Servlet ancestor, device/browser detection mechanism, root-context adapter, XML web application configuration, IIS and iPlanet web server redirection, Internet datawindow report server and readymade web application for implementation reference.
