Mumbai: Sybase, a leading enterprise infrastructure and integration company, has announced that its adaptive server enterprise (ASE) 12.5 for Mac OS X will be available this month. Sybase’s ASE 12.5 for Mac OS X Developer’s Edition is currently available for free download.

An enterprise-class relational database management system (RDBMS), ASE is designed for transaction-intensive applications and includes advanced e-business capabilities. The solution provides support for Java and XML technologies, allowing users to deploy high-performance, scalable RDBMS on the Mac operating system known as Jaguar.

“ASE for Jaguar Server combines the best of both worlds — Sybase’s high performance, scalable database with Apple’s legendary ease of use,” says Sybase enterprise solutions division senior vice-president and general manager Raj Nathan. “With this combination, we are pleased to provide the Mac community the same superior database capabilities with low total cost of ownership advantages that our other ASE customers enjoy today.”

ASE 12.5 for Mac OS X Server 10.2 uses the Apple installer and supports the company’s new Rendezvous configuration technology. ASE 12.5 automatically handles client discovery and reconfigures the database to reflect changes to server configuration. It will also generate traps that can activate pagers, send emails or engage other management actions.

The product also includes Sybase’s XML Management Package, offering a single point of access to developer software, services, technical information and collaboration with other developers.
