Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vibrant India' summit in Gandhinagar, the Pune-based Suzlon Group on Saturday announced plans to invest Rs24,000 crore over the next five years on energy projects to generate 3,000 MW in Gujarat.

This will also mark the foray of Suzlon in solar energy.

Suzlon Group chairman Tulsi Tanti said that the company will set up 2,000 MW of on-land wind capacity, 500 MW of offshore wind capacity and 500 MW of solar capacity. The offshore capacity will come up 5-10km off the Kutch coast.

"We will be creating the energy farms in Saurashtra and Kutch regions and sell to the small enterprises," said Tanti. The company will connect the energy farms to the state grid and this will act as captive capacity for the SMEs.

Suzlon is primarily targeting energy-intensive SME units operating in clusters in the state, dedicated to textiles, food processing and cold storage and auto components.

The company has already installed 1,854 MW out of 2,000 MW capacity expansion announced at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit two years ago. Tanti said that the company will achieve its target by March this year.

"The minimum investment under the scheme has been fixed at one wind turbine of 2.1 MW which will entail investment of Rs15-16 crore," said Tanti.
