Tata Communications to set up high-tech, green data centre in Gujarat

23 Jan 2014

Tata Communications will set up one of India's largest green data centre at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), India's first globally benchmarked International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) that is currently under construction between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

The data centre will provide ultra-modern communication services to India's only IFSC.

It will be built and managed by Tata Communications, a consortium member of Smart ICT Services Private Limited, the concessionaire appointed by GIFT for undertaking the establishment, management, and operation of ICT infrastructure, services and platforms within GIFT on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis.

The concessionaire is a special purpose vehicle formed by a consortium consisting of Newgen Holdings Private Limited, Tata Communications Limited, Centios Co. Ltd. and Newgen ITeS Private Limited pursuant to GIFT Company Ltd awarding the Project to the consortium.

Built over a land parcel of 4147 square meters, it will be one of the India's largest Tier IV facilities and the LEED certified Green Data Centre in India. The Data Centre building will be a ground + 4 structure with each floor having an area of 12,800 square feet and total capacity to accommodate 900 racks designed for efficient PUE (power usage effectiveness) at the time of expected launch in June 2015.

The Data Centre will provide world-class services including cloud services, co-location, managed hosting and other managed services to the customers in GIFT and outside at competitive costs.

The Data Centre project has been registered with LEED IGBC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Indian Green Building Council). The Data Centre design has been issued a Tier-4 Design validated certificate based on the requirements of the ANSI/TIA-942-2005 standard by EPI (Data Centre certification & audit body).

Sanjay Baweja, CFO, Tata Communications Limited said, ''The Tier IV Data Centre that Tata Communications is setting up will add enhanced capabilities and capacity to the world class infrastructure currently being rolled out for the financial community by GIFT City.''

Ramakant Jha, managing director and Group CEO, GIFT said, ''The Certification of Tier IV Data Centre by an international agency has implicitly confirmed that the infrastructure being developed in GIFT is of international standards and high reliability. This will facilitate a flawless & readily available business environment for the various agencies being located in GIFT - the first Global Financial Hub in India.''

In October 2013, a fully redundant, dual-parented point of presence (PoP) was built by Tata Communications Limited to provide industry-leading telecommunications services to the early occupants of GIFT.
