Tata DoCoMo offers ‘one paise per second’ GSM services in Karnataka

Following the launch of Tata DoCoMo, the GSM brand of Tata Tele Services in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Orissa few days ago, the company has rolled out the services in Karnataka yesterday aiming to gain on the unique ''pay-for-what-you-use'' concept, at a rate of one paise per second.

The GSM service in Karnataka will have and extensive coverage of 472 towns and 2,642 villages apart from the highways, railway lines, airports and places of tourist interests.

The company plans to spend over 9700 crore for expanding the GSM services across the country including around Rs730 crore investment in Karnataka, Anil Sardana, manging director of Tata Teleservices Ltd. told reporters.

Rata Tata, chairman of Tata Sons said in a press conference: ''The value proposition offered by Tata DoCoMo is a unique and revolutionary idea which symbolises the spirit of innovation and inventive genius. This launch is truly a moment of triumph for the consumer. The launch of pay-per-use, per-second concept offered by Tata DoCoMo will create a paradigm shift in the overall telecom experience for the customer and provide a service that is refreshingly different.''

The joint venture between the Japanese telecom giant, NTT DoCoMo and Tata Teleservices Ltd. has obtained licenses for 19 of the 22 available telecom circles in the country, and the company plans to roll out the GSM services in all the licensed circles by the end of the year.

Tata DoCoMo's head of South India Yatish Mehrotra said: "Tata DoCoMo will unveil a portfolio of services that will reinvent mobile telephony in India, with products and services like free voicemail, timed SMS service, free missed call alerts and call-me tunes, all of them customised to liberate and refresh our subscribers''
