Tata Group seeks early nod for Karnataka investment propoals

The Tata Group is seeking clearances at an early date for its investment proposals in Karnataka.

The salt-to-software giant has plans for massive investments in the state through its group of companies. Included in the plans is a proposed 100-acre Tata Consultancy Services campus near Bangalore.

A team of senior Tata Group officials led by Tata Steel vice chairman B Muthuraman yesterday met chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and his cabinet colleagues to discuss the investment proposals' progress.

Among the ministers present at the meeting large and medium industries minister Murugesh R Nirani, water resources minister Basavaraj Bommai, chief secretary S V Ranganath and principal secretary, department of commerce and Industry, V P Baligar.

According to Baligar TCS had approached the state government to seek 100 acres of land for setting up its largest campus at the IT park in Devanahalli on the outskirts of the city. He added that it would be one of the biggest campuses of TCS in India. The group had received an assurance on the land allotment from the chief minister.

Baligar said that the land acquisition of Tata Metaliks' Rs 15,000 crore, 3MTPA steel plant in Haveri was progressing smoothly.
