Tata Motors' global sales vault 53 per cent boosted by Land Rover sales

Tata Motors Group recorded a 53 per cent year-on-year jump in its global sales at 77,732 vehicles in April 2010, helped by an 89 per cent jump in the sales of Land Rover.

Global sales of the Tata Motors Group, including those of Tata Motors, Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles, Tata passenger vehicles along with distributed brands in India, and the British brand Jaguar and Land Rover, rose 53 per cent year-on-year to 77,732 units in April 2010.

Commercial vehicle sales rose 40 per cent to 34,470 units in April 2010 while passenger vehicle sales were up 66 per cent at 43,262 units.

Tata passenger vehicle sales, including those distributed, rose 71 per cent at 25,353 units during the month.

Jaguar Land Rover global sales in April 2010 were 17,909 vehicles, higher by 61 per cent. Jaguar sales for the month were 3,559 units, almost unchanged from last year in spite of the withdrawal of the X-Type. The Jaguar XF sales were up 23 per cent, while Land Rover sales rose 89 per cent to 14,350 units.

Tata Motors, India's largest automobile company, reported consolidated revenues of Rs70,938.85 crore ($14 billion) in 2008-09. Through subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Spain. It also has an industrial joint venture with Fiat in India.

Tata Motors is the country's market leader in commercial vehicles and among the top three in passenger vehicles. It is also the world's fourth largest truck manufacturer and the second largest bus manufacturer.
