Available in petrol and diesel versions, the Manza will come equipped with collapsible steering column, air bags and anti-lock braking system.

Speaking about the new model, Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata Motors, said, "The Indigo Manza is a modern, contemporary sedan on a new car platform that has the potential to emerge as a class leader.''

While the existing Indigo range will not be phased out, the new model will provide another option in the Indigo range which comprises Indigo CS, Indigo XL and the Indigo Marina.

''The entry mid-sized segment has seen the least amount of action since Maruti launched the Swift DZire. This segment is growing at 3 per cent annually, with the size of 12,000 units per month,'' said Rajiv Dube, president (passenger car business unit), Tata Motors.

Manza models will come in seven colours with four versions: Aqua, Aura, Aura (ABS) and Aura+. The engines are 1.4 litre Saffire petrol, and 1.3 litre Quadrajet diesel.

Currently Swift Dzire is the top selling vehicle in the mid size vehicle section. Other competitors include Logan from Mahindra Renault, Ikon from Ford, and Accent from Hyundai.

The car comes with some new features such as Bluetooth connection, air bags and anti-lock brakes that are new for this segment.

The diesel version will provide a mileage of 21km per litre, while the petrol engine will deliver 14.5km.

The Ranjangaon facility will be used to manufacture the vehicles. The total investment in Manza is reported to be around Rs2,000 crore which includes Indica Vista.
