Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd has proposed a marketing alliance with Italy's Fiat SpA for selling its Rs100,000 ($2,500) small car `Nano' overseas, chairman Ratan Tata said.

Tata Motors, which acquired the British luxury models of Ford – Jaguar and Land Rover early this year, plans to launch its small wonder `Nano' in September this year.

''We have held talks about the Nano being marketed in markets where Fiat has already a strong presence. I am open to consider a partnership," he said at an Indo-Italian business forum.

Tata Motors has a joint venture with Fiat in India under which Tata Motors manufactures and distributes Fiat cars, engines and commercial vehicles.

The Tata group is also in talks with Italian defence and aerospace company Finmeccanica SpA for supplying helicopter parts, Tata said.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors and Fiat's Iveco truck unit are in talks for making trucks and buses in India, Fiat chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said.

Talks with Iveco are expected to resume after the Indian partner completed its acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover, he said.
