Tata Motors plans dedicated platform for electric passenger vehicles

Tata Motors on Tuesday announced the setting up of a dedicated platform for electric vehicles to offer a range of electric and hybrid vehicles in the commercial and passenger vehicle space.

In a presentation to investors, Tata Motors said it is working on close to a dozen electric and hybrid vehicle solutions in the commercial vehicle space and is simultaneously moving towards a dedicated electric vehicle platform in the passenger vehicle front.
Tata Motors also announced to appointment of Shailesh Chandra as head of the electric mobility business vertical with immediate effect and will continue to be a member of the executive committee, Tata Motors stated in a statement. Chandra also leads the corporate strategy division at the company.
The company is planning to develop a 320-volts battery with a range of 300 plus km that will also deliver faster acceleration and efficiency, including fast charging.
Chandra in his presentation to investors said the company aims to lead in EVs by offering optimised and accessible solution to the consumers.
Tata Motors, which edged past Mahindra to bag the L1 tender for EESL's 10,000 electric vehicle contract, also managed to deliver the first lot of the contacted EVs in a short span of 4 months.
It may be noted that the company also bagged 60 per cent of electric bus order from the ministry of heavy industries for plying in major cities.
Creation of this new business vertical will enable Tata Motors to deliver on its aspiration of providing innovative and competitive e-mobility solutions.
“Tata Motors is optimistic about the future of Electric vehicles and would play a leading role in the electric mobility evolution in the country. We will also leverage on the capabilities of other Tata Group companies to develop the full ecosystem and fast track the adoption of e-mobility,” Guenter Butschek, chief executive officer and managing director, Tata Motors, said.
Chandra has played an instrumental role in leading the project teams to deliver the EESL project and has been closely working with some of the Group companies and other ecosystem partners in his current role.
“Tata Motors is committed to the government’s vision for electric vehicles by 2030 and will work in a collaborative manner to facilitate faster adoption of electric vehicles and to build a sustainable future for India,” the statement said.
