Tata Motors unveils sub-compact SUV `Nexon’ at Geneva Motor Show

Tata Motors has unveiled its first sub-compact SUV, the Nexon, at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The car is expected to be launched in India during this Divali.

The Nexon concept was first unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016 and its production version displayed at the Geneva Motor Show 2017, comes with an all new diesel engine.

The Nexon will be the first car in India to boast of a 1.5 litre Revotorq diesel engine, which will be both powerful and fuel efficient.

There's a 6-speed manual transmission on offer and according the Tata Motors sources, the NVH level on the car has been worked on for a 'class-leading' experience.

The Nexon, which has a sporty, aerodynamic design, also makes use of Tata Motors' IMPACT design language, according to Tata Motors sources.

It sports aerodynamically designed front pillars and a rear spoiler that provides a large windshield area for all-round visibility.

The front fascia boasts of a chrome 'Humanity Line' on the upper grille and floating roofs, with projector lamps as well as DRLs and tail lamps all in LED.

Tata has gone for the dual-tone colour scheme for the Nexon as is being used by Maruti Suzuki for its Vitara Brezza and the Ignis.

The Tata Nexon comes with 17 inch alloy wheels and the roof rails, aesthetically designed cabin. The use of premium materials and surface texture gives an upmarket feel to the car. The insides also has bottle and cup holders, multiple utility spaces, handbag hangers, laptop and iPad trays to enhance user experience.

Besides, to add to safety features, the Nexon is equipped with front dual airbags, ABS with EBD with Corner Stability Control. There's also the ISOFIX at the rear outboard and a rear-view camera interface with an inbuilt touchscreen infotainment system.

Besides, the Nexon features an advanced infotainment system, including a dash-top touchscreen exclusively designed by Harman, a comprehensive speaker system for surround sound effect and intelligent features such as voice command recognition. It also comes with next-gen connectivity with a host of smartphone applications.

While the exact time of the launch of the Nexon in India is not known, the car is expected to make its debut in India this year, sometime before Diwali.

And, with a base price tag of Rs7 lakh to Rs9 lakh, the Nexon will have a price advantage over rivals.

Tata Motors also revealed the new sub-compact sedan Tigor as also the first product from the Tamo brand - Racemo at the Geneva Motor Show.
 
The Tata Tigor, basically a longer version of the Tiago, and was showcased last year at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. It was called the Kite 5 back then. It will feature an 85hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine similar to the Tiago. It is also expected to come with an option of a 70hp 1.0-litre Revotorq diesel.

According to sources, Tata has focused on in-car  connectivity and entertainment and will feature a touchscreen system which is developed jointly with Harman. There will be eight-speaker, park assist functionality and a rear camera. As for the exterior styling, it takes a lot of its shape and style from the Tiago. The front grille comes with a chrome strip on the top that extends into the projector headlamps  and the rear gets a sporty personality.

The Tigor will be officially launched in India on 29 March.
