Tata Steel’s crude steel production exceeds installed capacity

Tata Steel's India operations for 2010-11 have seen all-round improvement with crude steel production of 6.855MT exceeding the steel major's installed capacity of 6.800MT, and recording a 4.4 per cent  rise over the figure of 6.564 MT for FY 2009-10.

This is the first instance of the company's crude steel production exceeding its installed capacity after completion of its expansion last year.

The year just ended also saw the company achieve higher hot metal and saleable steel production of 6.855MT (6.564 MT) and 7.503MT (7.231MT) which was an increase of 3,8 per cent and 3.9 per cent over the figures for the last year.

The company also recorded a 4 per cent rise in its sales at 6.414MT (6.169MT), with sales of its long products registering a 7 per cent  jump at 2.876 MT (2.697 MT) while its flat products saw a 2 per cent rise in sales at 3.538MT (3.472MT). The steel major's flat products division for the first time crossed the 1 million sales-mark

with a sale of 1.043MT during the year, an 18 per cent rise over the previous year's figure.

The company's skin panel sales at 0.049 MT increased 49 per cent as against the previous year whereas branded flat product sales crossed the 1 million tonne mark.
