Jamshedpur: Tata Steel has received the prestigious ISO/TS 16949 certification. The ISO/TS 16949 code is based on the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 Systems and is adopted by major auto companies. The certification was presented to B. Muthuraman, managing director, Tata Steel, by R A Venkatachalam, managing director Underwriters Laboratories Incorporated India, at a function in Jamshedpur.

Congratulating Tata Steel, Venkatachalam said that in today''s competitive environment, quality and consistency are taken for granted by customers, and therefore, the TS 16949 certification was a significant milestone in the company''s quest of focusing on the auto industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Muthuraman said that as Tata Steel grows and expands in size both within the country and overseas, it has to focus on specifically targeted customer and market segments. In this respect, the company had taken a conscious decision to focus on the automotive segment. Muthuraman said that the eventual objective of Tata Steel was "creating value for customers", better than the competition.
