Tata Steel sales up 22 per cent in April-February 2009-10

Tata Steel today reported a 22 per cent year-on-year increase in its cumulative sales so far in the current financial year, at 5.54 million tonnes, at the end of February 2010.

Tata Steel ended February 2010 with an increase in the production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel over the corresponding month of last year.

Hot metal production stood at 6.60 million tonnes as of end-February 2010 - showing a growth of 17 per cent  year-on-year, while crude steel production rose 18 per cent to 6.0 million tonnes and production of salable steel rose 22 per cent to 5.86 million tonnes.

"The company achieved sales of 5.54 million tonnes cumulatively up to February 2010 in the current fiscal year, showing a growth of 22 per cent over the corresponding period last fiscal," the company said in a statement.

In February alone, the company witnessed a 13.5 per cent rise in hot metal production at 5.87 lakh tonnes against the corresponding month in the previous fiscal. Crude steel and saleable steel production in February grew 13 per cent and 0.4 per cent to 5.27 lakh tonnes and 5 lakh tonnes, respectively.

"Tata Steel completed February with an increase in its hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production over the corresponding month of last year," the statement noted.
