Tata Steel to commence work on Orissa steel project

The world's largest steel maker, Tata Steel, says it will begin construction of the six million tonne integrated steel plant at Kaliganagar in Orissa within three months.

The Kalinanagar steel project is one of the three greenfield projects Tata Steel has announced with a combined capacity of combined capacity addition of 23 million tonnes.

The other two projects are located in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The announcement comes days after the steel maker commenced work on its capacity expansion to double production at Jamshedpur to 10 million tonnes. (See: Tata Steel's 10 mt expansion project gets under way)

B Muthuraman, managing director, Tata Steel, said, the company would commission a galvanised steel production line at Bhopalpur within 24 months, to be built at a cost of Rs250 crore.
