Tata Teleservices to launch NovaPC

Mumbai: Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) has tied up with technology services company Novatium to launch its thin-client solution bundled with TTML's high speed internet DSL products in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa.

The NovaPC is a thin-client based network computer that can be used for both computing applications and accessing the Internet, and supports both Windows and Linux operating systems. NovaPC also runs local applications using USB peripherals.

Milesh Ruparel, president (corporate), TTML said, ''This next generation technology product, priced less than $100 or Rs4500, will especially be a boon for middle class Indians and small and medium enterprises seeking to access the world wide web and leverage the power of information technology to improve their economic well-being and quality of life. The NovaPC provides at a very affordable price all the advantages of a personal computer with none of the hassles of hardware maintenance, software licensing, upgrades and viruses.

Additionally, it provides monitoring mechanisms to facilitate parental control on both content and time''.

Novatium has developed the a generation of thin, embedded devices capable of operating on any server (Windows, Linux or Solaris) platform without any change in devices, powered by DUDM (desktop utility delivery model) technology.

Novatium says it aims at providing computing as a service to the "next billion users", and says its core competence lies in its expertise in areas such as product development, solutions, sales, and marketing as well as in core computing environments.
