TCS to set up software development campus in Indore

Tata Consultancy Services is setting up a new IT and BPO campus in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, for which the Tata group company would make an initial investment of Rs550 crore.

The campus will be located on a 100-acre property allotted by Madhya Pradesh government, and TCS expects construction of first phase to be completed by March 2016. The total development area of the campus is expected to be about 1.5 million square feet, for which TCS, the country's largest IT exporter, today signed an agreement with Madhya Pradesh government.

''Indore has the potential to become another big hub for knowledge-based industries like IT and BPO with its strong eco-system of universities and talented people. Our investment will help catalyse further development of the talent ecosystem as well as help upgrade the civic infrastructure in the area,'' TCS chief financial officer and executive director S Mahalingam said.

On completion of phase I, TCS expects to offer direct job to 10,000 associates, and intends to provide an estimated indirect job opportunity to another 10,000.

The indirect jobs would be in supporting functions and professions like e-waste management, facilities management, transportation, hotel and hospitality, restaurants, utilities and financial, banking and other services.

Moreover, during the design and construction phase of about four years, there will be employment opportunities for about 2,500 construction workers, the company said.

The Indore campus will house software engineering blocks, training centre, amphitheatre, customer care centre, auditorium as well as facilities to offer a holistic environment to knowledge professionals.
