30 Dec 2009

Telecom transmission equipment maker Teracom on Tuesday said it has bagged a Rs104 crore project from state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to install a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network that will help BSNL deliver high-speed voice, video and data services to subscribers.

BSNL will be the first telecom company in the country to deploy a fibre-to-home network, a type of broadband connection, on a commercial basis, Teracom said in a statement from New Delhi. The company delivers applications for transmission of data, voice and video at a higher speed (in excess of 100 Mbps).

BSNL's FTTH network would provide subscribers high-speed gaming, high-definition video conferencing and entertainment applications. The company plans to implement similar FTTH networks in 25 cities across India by the year 2012.

"We are very well-versed with the technology and are sure that it will help the operator to maximise their revenue," Puneet Jain, Teracom senior vice president, corporate business, said in the statement.
