Tesla Cybertruck bags 1.87 lakh orders in 4 days

Tesla Cybertruck that made its debut with shattered glass on Friday has made history of sorts securing around 1.87 lakh orders within 4 days of unveilIng, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted. The automaker had already crossed the 1.5 lakh order mark - with 42 per cent going for dual, 41 per cent tri and 17 per cent for the single motor variants - on Sunday, Musk had twweted earlier.
He had also claimed that the orders were secured "with no advertising and no paid endorsement".

Tesla Cybertruck's production is expected to begin in late 2020. The electric pickup truck is available in three trims -- single motor RWD with a range of over 250 miles, dual-motor AWD with a range of more than 300 miles and tri-motor AWD with a range more than 800 km.
The single motor RWD variant of the Cybertruck can go from 0 to 60 mph in below 6.5 seconds and has a towing capacity of over 7,500 pounds, while the dual-motor AWD trim can make 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds and boasts of a towing capacity of more than 10,000 pounds. Tesla claims that the tri-motor AWD variant of the vehicle is good for 0-60 mph in less than 2.9 seconds and gets a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.
Tesla Cybertruck features an ultra-hard 30Xcold-rolled stainless-steel body and armoured glass. The vehicle comes with an adaptive air suspension that can be raised and lowered four inches in either direction. As many as six adults can fit in the cabin of the electric pickup truck. Besides, there is a 17-inch touchscreen with an all-new customised user interface.
Tesla Cybertruck single motor RWD is priced at USD 39,900. The dual-motor AWD and tri-motor AWD variants are available for USD 49,900 and USD 69,900, respectively. The self-driving option is USD 7,000 more expensive.
The billionaire Tesla co-founder floundered on stage in California on Thursday when the vehicle's armored glass windows cracked in a demonstration intended to prove their indestructible design.
Shares in the company had also plunged 6.1 per cent following the truck's bumpy launch and several lackluster reviews.
But on Saturday Musk tweeted that Tesla had already received 146,000 orders from prospective owners.

The space-age looking Cybertruck is covered in the same steel alloy Musk plans to use for his SpaceX Starship rocket and will be able to go from 0 to 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour in about three seconds, the Tesla chief executive claimed in his presentation.
No date has been given for its release, but analysts said it would not be ready before the end of 2021 at the earliest.
