Thermax secures Rs 450-crore captive power plant order

Power generation equipment maker Thermax has won a Rs450 crore order for setting up a 60 MW captive power plant. The power plant will be built and commissioned on a turnkey basis for a green field integrated steel complex in Andhra Pradesh.

The captive power plant will support the integrated steel project of 1.25 million tons per annum (mpta) expandable to 2.5 mtpa capacity. The power and steam generated will be used for some critical processes of the complex.

The plant will use process gases and blended coal as fuel. The order includes the supply and commissioning of boilers and turbines, fuel and ash handling system, civil works, water treatment plant, pollution control systems, storage reservoirs, and balance of plant equipment.


Thermax has extensive experience and has the highest market share in mid-sized power plants. It has commissioned a large number of captive power plants and is currently executing another 20 projects on turnkey basis in India and South East Asia.

Thermax is also currently bidding for sub critical utility power plant boilers.

Its power plants cover a wide range of fuels including natural gas, imported and domestic coal and offers expertise in fuels and waste heat recovery systems.


In the month of August, 2008, Thermax received an order of Rs415 crore from a leading steel making Company, for setting up a captive power plant for their upcoming blast furnace complex on an EPC basis.

In July, 2008, Thermax Ltd secured an order worth Rs820 crore for the supply of coal-fired boilers to a cogeneration plant being set up by a major refinery.(See: Thermax wins Rs820 crore order for coal-fired boilers)
