Toyota Kirloskar to start compact car production in December 2010

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd (TKM), the Indian arm of Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corporation, plans to start production of its much awaited compact car in December next year at its second plant being built in Bangalore.

Toyota Motor Corporation said it would unveil the concept model of its compact car for the Indian market next month.

"Both hatchback and sedan version of concept vehicle of the compact car will be showcased at AutoExpo," TKM deputy managing director Sandeep Singh said, adding, "It's a concept vehicle coming from Japan."

The AutoExpo will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from January 5 to 11.

Singh said actual production of the compact car would start in December 2010, with initial production plan of 70,000 units.

TKM is also showcasing its Toyota Prius hybrid car at the AutoExpo for its launch in the Indian market.
 
The compact car project is aimed at propping up Toyota as a volume player in the Indian car market.
