Toyota's woes now extend to Prius hybrid brakes

03 Feb 2010

After having issued a recall for nearly 4.45 million vehicles globally late last month because off defective accelerator pedals, Toyota's woes have now extended to brake related problems on its new 2010 Prius hybrid model

Aready reeling from its largest ever recall in its history (See: Toyota recalls another 2.3 million vehicles), the world's largest automaker, today said that it has received 14 brake related complaints on its latest Prius hybrid model.

The Japanese car maker said that its dealers in North American and Japan have received over a dozen customer complaints that Prius hybrid customers complained of inconsistent brake action when driving over potholes, bumpy and  frozen roads.

Japan's transport ministry said yesterday that it has received 14 complaints from the beginning of December related to this problem and has directed the carmaker to investigate the complaints.

Although the carmaker has not received any complaints on accidents related to the brake problem on the Pirus hybrid, regulators feel that 14 complaints in a two-month period is unusual.
