Toyota to miss 2011 production target

17 Jun 2011

Toyota is likely to miss its 2011 India target by about 10,000 units due to production cuts following the Japanese tsunami and earthquake in March.

Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director (marketing) of Toyota Kirloskar Motors, said today at the launch of a variant of the sedan, Corolla Altis that the company had earlier, set a target of 1,50,000 units for this year, which has been reduced to 1,40,000 units because of the one-month production cut following the tsunami in Japan.

Singh expects, Toyota Kirloskar to sell 60,000 units of the Etios, and the upcoming small car Liva in 2011. Its  2012 production would be 2.1 lakh units.

Meanwhile, the company's small car Liva would be unveiled by the end of this month.

The new Corolla Altis comes in both petrol and diesel variants that are priced between Rs10.53 lakh and Rs14.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

According to Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar, since the launch of the first Corolla in India in 2003, the company had been getting a very good response to the car, and had so far sold 70,000 units across the country.
