Toyota to recall 19,529 imported Lexus vehicles in China over defective engines

12 May 2016

Toyota Motor is recalling 19,529 imported Lexus vehicles in China over defective engines, the country's top quality watchdog today said.

The Japanese carmaker will recall these vehicles produced between 7 July 2015 and 5 April 2016, according to a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ).

The recall comes a month after Toyota recalled 15,322 imported Lexus vehicles over defective brake actuators.

The GAQSIQ said that programs controlling exhaust gas re-circulation valves may fail in the affected vehicles and may cause the engines to stop.

Toyota will check and update the programs free of charge.
