Tube Investment's BSA Motors launches eScooters in Delhi

New Delhi: BSA Motors, part of the of the Chennai-based Murugappa Group's Tube Investments of India  will now market its five electric scooter models in New Delhi.

BSA Motors showrooms in New Delhi will function as a one-stop shop for sales, service and spare parts.

Earlier in November 2008, the company had introduced these five models, made at its Ambattur plant, in the southern market.

The Ambattur plant, with a first yeear investment of Rs30 crore, has an initial capacity of 150 eScooters a day, which can be doubled when required. (See: BSA Motors plans to sell 60,000 eScooters in 2009) 

''We see our entry into the electric scooter market as a logical extension of our current business, from bicycles to electric two wheelers," said  L Ramkumar, managing director, Tube Investments of India, during the launch of the eScooters in Delhi.

Ramkumar said, "The electric scooter market is presently Rs400-crore market in India and the industry is expected to double in a year's time. BSA Motor's foray into the electric scooters category helps us to expand our portfolio in the two wheeler market.
