TVS Motorcycle sales up 53 per cent

Mumbai: TVS Motor Company has reported a 53 per cent YoY sales growth in the motorcycles segment in April 2006, with sales of sales of 80,862 units as against 52,825 units in April 2005.

In addition, it exported 7,000 units in April 2006 compared to 6,291 units in the year ago period recording a growth of 11 per cent. Buoyed by the motorcycle growth, the overall two-wheelers recorded 124,917 units in April 2006 compared to 92,400 units in the year ago period, recording a growth of 35 per cent. According to a recent study by Boston Consulting Group and the CII, TVS is among the list of 100 companies chosen from 12 rapidly developing economies that are emerging as global challengers. The company is a recipient of The Deming Prize for total quality management, the hallmark of Quality.

Recently, the company launched feature-packed new versions of TVS StaR City and Victor GLX with alloy wheels with a new advertising campaign for the StaR City brand featuring its latest brand ambassador Mahindra Singh Dhoni. TVS Apache that has won wide acclaim in the last two months and TVS Motor is in the process of ramping up production in the coming months to cater to demand from other areas. TVS Scooty recorded 17,969 units in April 2006 compared to 19,279 units recorded last year during the corresponding period. A new advertising campaign featuring Priety Zinta for a new collection of Scooty Pep will soon go on air.
