UAW members approve contract with GM

Mumbai: The unions affiliated to the United Auto Workers union have ratified the new labor contract with General Motors Corp. The UAW said 66 per cent of its membership voted for new GM contract that was reached on September 26 following a two-day strike against the US automaker.

The new contract covers more than 73,000 active workers at GM, and more than 269,000 GM retirees and 69,000 surviving spouses. It will expire on 14 September 2011.
