A quintessential, but influential voice in British journalism, The Spectator was first published on 6 July 1828 and from then has informed and entertained readers with  insight, commentary, analysis and debate on  current affairs, the arts, literature and major issues of the day in a witty, intelligent and insightful manner living up to its description of  "champagne for the brain".
