Uninor opens 367 stores in a single day

Embarking on its largest expansion plans ever, the Indian arm of Norwegian telecom giant Telenor, has opened 367 new retail stores in a single day.

This expansion – across the six circles of Uttar Pradesh (West), Uttar Pradesh (East), Bihar (including Jharkhand), Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat increases its retail footprint to a total of 1,480 stores in the country.

''We declared early on this year that 2014 will be about investments, expansion and growth for Uninor. We started this with the addition of a record 5,000 new network sites and follow that up today with our largest ever retail expansion,'' said Morten Karlsen Sorby, nominated Chief Executive Officer of Uninor.

''Every day we get closer still to our customers. We have the network, the retail footprint and the product portfolio of 'sabse sasta' voice, SMS and internet for all – to truly serve the segment we have chosen – the mass market,'' he added.

''Together with being the best in basic services and low cost operations, being best in mass market distribution are the three pillars that define Uninor's strategy in India. We take a big leap forward on retail today,'' said Rajeev Sethi, Chief Marketing Officer of Uninor.

''It is the mass market customer who often requires greater engagement with the operator– to be able to walk into a store in the neighborhood and get the information and assistance needed. This is what these stores will do– within walking distance of our subscribers,'' he added.

All Uninor stores will be full service outlets offering new connections, recharges, on-the-spot query resolution and complete assistance to all subscribers.

Uninor is majority-owned subsidiary of Telenor Group, a major mobile operator with headquarters in Oslo, Norway.
