Vimal’s announces novel chemical agent to keep fabrics fresh, odourless

Reliance Industries Ltd's (RIL) flagship textile brand Vimal yesterday claimed it had developed a 'pioneering innovation' in the textile industry that would help fight odour in  fabrics and keep them fresh even after they have been worn for a whole day in humid and warm climatic conditions like India's.

The innovation involves treating fabrics with a chemical that arrests the growth of fungi and bacteria.

According to RIL's textile division president Anand Parekh, 'DEO2' was an entirely in-hose innovation of RIL and ''with cent per cent indigenous technology'' developed at its Naroda facility on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

All Vimal products would be treated with the new anti-microbial deo-treatment technology and provided to the consumers without at no extra cost. Initially, the 'DEO2' treatment would be limited to suitings, but later expanded to shirting too, he said. Parekh said that according to laboratory tests the chemical agent had proved to have no adverse effect on human skins and rather ''good for it.''

RIL, has applied for a patent on the technology in India. He added the companies importing Vimal products in other countries had also evinced keen interest in the new technology, but initially the new technology would restricted to products sold in India.

Textiles treated with the chemical agent are expected to be available in the country in the next two to three weeks.
