Vodafone India cuts international roaming rates by 60%

27 Jun 2012

GSM operator Vodafone India has slashed international roaming tariffs by 60 per cent for voice, SMS and data services, under a new pack, a move that is likely to be followed by other operators in the country.

''This discount offer is applicable across 40 countries on specific partner networks across the globe,'' Vodafone India said in a statement, adding, ''The offer is activated on a minimal one-time rental fee of Rs1,499 valid for 30 days, the rental for which will be charged in the customer's bill.''

To activate the pack, users have to send a text message, toll free on home network, ACT VROAM to 111.

''We, at Vodafone, have a customer first approach and always believe in providing differentiated and customized solutions to our customers.

This latest offering addresses the latent needs of customers travelling to multiple countries with a single pack on one number and one-time rental, thus making international roaming a worry-free experience,'' Vodafone India chief commercial officer Sanjoy Mukerji said.

This move is likely to be followed by other operators, much like the recent reduction in 3G rates.
