Vodafone slashes roaming rates for Kolkata circle

07 Dec 2009

Cellular service provider Vodafone Essar, which so far has been the slowest to snip its tariffs in line with the other major operators in the market, on Saturday announced new tariff plans, which offer substantial reduction in roaming rates. The reduction, however, is only applicable to 'postpaid' GSM mobile subsribers in the Kolkata telecom circle.

Such customers can opt for a 'travel plan' or a 'ticket plan', both priced at Rs299, to avail of the new per minute and per second roaming tariffs, respectively. In addition to the flat 70 paise per minute national roaming rate, the travel plan offers a flat rate of 50 paise per minute on local and STD calls and 175 minutes free on local and STD calls per month.

Similarly, in addition to the flat roaming rate of 1.5 paise per second, the ticket plan offers the customer a flat local and STD rate of 1 paise per second and 10,000 free local and STD seconds per month.

"We are delighted to continually provide our customers the enduring advantage of Vodafone's superior network, customer-centricity and innovative offerings. Both the travel plan and ticket plan offer simplicity to our customers by introducing flat rates across categories, and the power to choose either the minute or the second pulse rate option, based on their preference. Both plans offer reduced call rates and enable our customers to stay connected at affordable rates while being on the move," said Kumar Ramanathan, CMO of Vodafone Essar.
