Mumbai: Volkswagen Tiguan, has been honoured with the 2008 coveted Auto 1 Trophy in the category "Off-Roaders" at the 78th Geneva Motor Show. The voters comprising 40 million readers of the Auto Bild Group and trade experts chose Tiguan among 74 new models as the winner.

Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen's executive board member for development, accepted the prestigious prize before an audience of more than 500 guests at the La Halle Sécheron in Geneva.

Dr Hackenberg said, "This award crowns a series of international successes for the Tiguan since its market launch. The Tiguan represents an important element in Volkswagen's global growth strategy. I view this trophy, not least, as confirmation that we areon the right path with our products."

An international jury of editors, experts, racing drivers and the 40 million readers of the 26 European editions of the Auto Bild magazine, select the overall champion in the annual Auto 1 awards. As a result, Auto 1 is an excellent indicator of the general consensus towards a car.
The jury voted in six new categories for the best new cars in 2007.

The three best-placed cars in each class were then put through a performance tes at a testing ground near Rome to determine the winner in each class. The Tiguan won the contest on points, outperforming its competitors in its chosen class.

This award is another achievement in a whole series of successes for the Tiguan. In November 2007, the Volkswagen SUV was awarded the "Auto Trophy", which preceded the "Golden Steering Wheel" prize, the SUV won only a few weeks earlier.

Tiguan also got a great response from Indian visitors when it was showcased at the Auto Expo held in January 2008 in New Delhi.
