Wipro CEO and MD Abidali Z Neemuchwala steps down

Information technology, consulting and business process services company today announced that its chief executive officer and managing director Abidali Z Neemuchwala has decided to step down from his positions citing family commitments.
Neemuchwala, who has been with Wipro since April 2015, will relinquish his responsibilities only after a successor is appointed in order to ensure a smooth transition, said Wipro in a regulatory filing.
The board has initiated a search to find a replacement to Neemuchwala. He was appointed MD and CEO in February 2016.
“We thank Abid for his leadership and his contributions to Wipro. Over the last four years, Abid helped build a strong execution mindset, drove key acquisitions and scaled our Digital business globally. We wish him the very best for the future,” Rishad Premji, chairman said.
“It has been my honour and privilege to serve Wipro, a company with a rich legacy of almost 75 years. We have made considerable progress in our transformation journey, improved our delivery engine and institutionalised deeper client centricity. I thank Azim Premji, Rishad, our Board of Directors, my Wipro colleagues and customers for their support over the years,” said Neemuchwala.
Neemuchwala, who had been group president and chief operating officer of Wipro from April 2015, was appointed CEO with effect from 1 February 2016. Overall, he has over 25 years of experience in the IT services industry.
Prior to Wipro, he has held key leadership roles with Tata Consultancy Services, in business, technology, sales, operations and consulting. He was recognised as the BPO CEO of the year in 2010.
