Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) has taken a new initiative by making its high-quality Computer Science courses available online and free of cost, so that these are easily accessible to all.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of IITM has created an online portal containing the core courses for Computer Science, in order to make these courses accessible to educational institutions, students or anyone else who is interested in the programme.
Making high quality education accessible to rural India free of cost is in line with the vision of the IIT Madras Director, Professor V Kamakoti, says an official press release.
The courses that are available to students on the online portal are:
  • Programming
  • Data Structures
  • Computer Organisation and Algorithms
Educational Institutions, students and anyone who is interested in applying for online courses offered by IIT Madras can take part in these Computer Science courses by visiting the official portal at nsm.iitm.ac.in/cse/
Each of these courses are available as YouTube recordings of live lectures taught to students at IIT Madras during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
“The recordings of live lectures for CSE core courses at the undergraduate level and the graduate level, by the faculty of the department are expected to be helpful to the students in engineering colleges to learn the underlying concepts and principles of the subjects of these courses in the right manner,” Professor C Chandra Sekhar, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, CSE at IIT Madras stated.
Computer Science is one such engineering discipline in India that are sought for by many students, especially at IIT.
“The portal has been created to help students who could not study at IIT Madras, especially those from remote and rural areas of the country. They will have access to the same curriculum that is taught in the institute. This initiative will ensure that quality material is accessible to all students,” stated Rupesh Nasre, associate professor at the CSE Department of IIT Madras.
The department is currently working on the portal and is looking for ways to add more content for those interested. The CSE department of IIT Madras is currently also planning to engage senior students to conduct live tutorial sessions where doubts will also be clarified.
