More students appear for JEE Main 2020 as SC dumps opposition plea

Attendance for JEE Main 2020 picked up with 81.6 per cent of registered students appearing for the exam after the Supreme Court cleared the exam that was challenged by opposition parties.
JEE Main 2020 Paper II started from 2 September. While only about 51 per cent registered candidates had appeared for the examination, about 81.6 per cent candidates appeared for Wednesday and Thursday exams, according to reports.
Intimidated by the legal challenge posed by six opposition-ruled states, attendance on day 1 of the JEE Main 2020 exam was a dismal 51 per cent, the numbers improved on Wednesday and Thursday with over 80 per cent candidates showing up for the examination, showing that students or parents per say were not opposed to the decision to conduct the examination.
As many as 3,46,372 candidates were scheduled for the 2 and 3 September examinations. The exam was conducted in morning from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon slot of 3 pm to 12 pm. Of the total, as many as 2,82,592 aspirants appeared for the examinations.
Attendance on Day 1 had been about 54 per cent. NTA has shared the attendance numbers for the First three days of JEE Main.
Exams on Day 1 was for B Arch and B Planning. Entrance examination for engineering courses – BE and B Tech, however started on 2 September and would be conducted till 6 September. Of the total 8.67 lakh registrations, 7.46 lakh candidates had applied only for Paper I.
Opposition-ruled states and many students had raised various concerns regarding the conduct of the examination. National Testing Agency, NTA had, however, stated that it was not possible to delay the conduct of the examination any further. The on-going battle reached the Supreme Court but the plea was dismissed.
