Army finds cache of arms, documents in Assam’s Chirang

Army personnel on Sunday recovered a huge cache of war-like stores in Mana Reserve Forest in lower Assam's Chirang district, forestalling a major terrorist or insurgent attack.

According to a statement from the Army, troops of the Red Horns division found an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately six kg, documents with details of extortions being carried out by the NDFB (S) and details of important over-ground workers and link men working at the behest of the outlawed militant outfit.

The recovery is a setback for the activities of NDFB (S) in Chirang district, it said, adding that now the Army will be able to track their activities, impose a caution in the minds of the extremists and hamper their future plans to carry out subversive activities.

Over 70 cadres of the NDFB have either been killed or nabbed in the last one month after security forces launched an operation following the 23 December massacre of adivasis in three districts of Assam.
