Seven Army men killed in fight to neutralise terror attack in Nagrota

Seven Indian Army personnel, including two officers and five jawans, were killed after Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked an Army camp In Nagrota Near Jammu at around 5:30 am.

A group of heavily armed militants, in police uniform, attacked the 166 field army regiment camp in Nagrota, about 20 km from Jammu and on the highway, at 5.30 am. The terrorists threw grenades at the camp and opened indiscriminate fire.

The terrorists also held some women and children in the camp hostage after they stormed the 166 artillery unit. All the hostages have been rescued, Lt Colonel Manish Mehta, Defence PRO, said.

He said all three militants were killed in the encounter. ''Three heavily armed terrorists in police uniform entered in officers' mess building complex, fired heavily and attacked with grenades. Twelve jawans, two ladies and two children were inside. There was hostage-like situation which was successfully neutralised,'' added Mehta.

Nagrota is the headquarters of the army's 16 Corps, a massive military formation that is engaged in border defence and anti-terrorist operations in the greater Jammu region.

Simultaneously, the Border Security Force (BSF) is engaging terrorists in Samba sector to foil infiltration bid.

In a second incident, the BSF killed two terrorists after it intercepted a group of terrorists attempting to cross over at the border at Ramgarh in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba sector. Firing is on between the soldiers and the terrorists.

There has been a spurt in attacks and infiltration attempts by terrorists from across the border over the past few weeks.
