India's April-November indirect tax collections rise over 42 per cent to Rs2,07,756 crore

Revenue collections from indirect taxes in the country, including customs, central excise and service tax, increased by a whopping 42.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs2,07,756 crore during April-November 2010-11, from Rs1,45,958 crore during the comparable period of the previous financial year (2009-10).

Provisional figures released by the revenue department show a 66.3 per cent achievement in the overall indirect tax collection target for the April-November 2010 period.

The central government has set an overall target of Rs3,13,471 crore for indirect tax collections during the 2010-11 financial year.

Customs duty collections increased 67 per cent year-on-year to Rs86,844 crore during April-November 2010-11 compared with Rs52,011 crore collected during April-November 2009-10. This constitutes 75.5 per cent of the targeted Rs1,15,000 crore for the whole year 2010-11.

Revenue collections from central excise increased about 34.4 per cent to Rs81,984 crore during April-November 2010-11 against the collection of Rs61,020 crore during April-November 2009-10. Excise duty collections during April-November constituted 62.8 per cent of the target of Rs1,30,471 crore set for the current financial year (2010-11).

Service tax mop-up during April-November 2010 increased 18.2 per cent year-on-year to Rs38,927 crore against Rs32,927 crore collected during the similar period a year ago. This constitutes 57.2 per cent of the overall target of Rs68,000 crore fixed for the full financial year (2010-11).

Overall indirect tax collections of Rs2,07,756 crore during April-November 2010 constitute an achievement of 66.3 per cent of the overall target of Rs3,13,471 crore fixed for the current financial year (2010-11).

At Rs1,45,958 crore, indirect tax collections during April-November 2009-10 constituted 54.5 per cent of the target for the whole financial year (April-March 2009-10).
