Marg to build fishing harbour on public - partnership model

Kanyakumari: Diversified infrastructure development company Marg Limited is building the country's first fishing harbour on the public-private partnership model  for the humble fisher folk of Rajakamangalam Thurai in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.  `

MARG group's businesses are in the areas of ports and logistics, industrial clusters, commercial infrastructure and homes.

Marg will invest Rs45 crore in the project that would be spread over 40 acres. The company says  that the fishing yharbour will eventually benefit over 40,000 people from in and around the harbour site and provide direct employment for about 8,000 people once the fishing harbour is fully developed by October 2010.

The company says the landing wharf at the harbour will have mooring facility for 300 boats  and its water front facilities will provide safe landing, berthing to various category of fishing craft, boat building and repair yards, ice plant and cold storage facilities for processing and preservation of fish, etc.

These facilities would be aimed at engaging best practices to harvest the fishery potential at the level of maximum sustainable yield. It will also enhance the food security and livelihood of the people of Rajakamangalam Thurai village. 

MARG had pioneered development on OMR, Chennai's IT Corridor, and has undertaken projects for Scope International (Standard Chartered Bank), Tata Consultancy Services, Satyam Computer Services, BHEL, Enercon India and Slash Support Systems.
