Spectacular show of laser, lights and fireworks

29 Jun 2009

HCC celebrated the eve of Bandra-Worli Sea Link inauguration with a spectacular show of light and sound, turning the bridge into a sparkling jewel. The bridge is scheduled to be inaugurated tomorrow.

The show was visible from Dadar, Shivaji Park, Bandra, Worli and Mahim sea-front at 8:10 pm. The skies, sea and the bridge came alive with coloured lights followed by an orchestrated display of multi-coloured lasers and fireworks of aerial shells, mines, Roman candles and other spectacular illuminating display.

HCC had brought in internationally trained technicians to design and present the special celebration as a curtain raiser to Mumbai getting India's first open-sea and largest cable-stay bridge.

An MSRDC project, Bandra-Worli Sea Link is an engineering marvel built by HCC.

The highlights of this new landmark of Mumbai are the two aesthetically designed cable-stayed bridges - viz, the Bandra and Worli cable-stayed bridges of 500 and 150 meter spans, respectively - with the highest towers soaring to a height of 126 metres, equivalent to the height of a 43-storyed building.
