The projects, under various flagship missions of urban development, are expected to give a big boost to industrialisation in the state.
The event, titled `Transforming Urban Landscape’ has been organized to mark the third anniversary of three key government initiatives related to urban development. These include: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban); Atal Mission for Rejuvenation of Urban Transformnation (AMRUT); and the Smart Cities Mission.
These projects have the potential to create over two lakh new jobs, UP minister for Industries Satish Mahana said.
Around 80 leading industrialists, including Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Aditya Birla group, Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani group, Subhash Chandra, chairman of Essel group and Sanjeev Puri, MD, ITC, besides other top business houses and industry officials participated in the event..
The event comes close on the heels of ‘Investors Summit’ organised in February this year, to project Uttar Pradesh as a very favourable state for industrialists to base their projects.
The 80 projects launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday are among the 1,045 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed at the Uttar Pradesh Investors’ Summit organised earlier this year.
The 1,045 MoUs envisage an investment of Rs4,28,000 crore across sectors like renewable energy, infrastructure, power, IT and electronic manufacturing, tourism etc.
The state has formulated a number of policies to attract more investment. Besides, with a new law being proposed to fast-track clearances through a single- window system, more such ground-breaking ceremonies are expected in the coming months.
“We are in the process of implementing more MoUs, and another ground-breaking ceremony may be organised soon,” said chief secretary Anoop Chandra Pandey.
The major companies investing in the state are IT giants Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys, besides the Patanjali Group. The Yogi government claims that the projects to be launched at the first ground-breaking ceremony will create about 2.1 lakh jobs.
